Bafetembi Gomis: One Of Four Lyon Goal Scorers In Matchday 6

Ladies and Gentlemen… that is all she wrote , the group stage is in the bag. Of the more impressive performers in this round of play were Lyon sniping 4 goals against Debrecen, United, who benefited from a hat trick from Michael Owen in a solid performance over Wolfsburg, and of course, Barcelona who managed to squeak out a late winner to defeat Dynamo Kiev (just as I predicted btw). I think its time now to review this matchday’s results and compare them to my humble prognostications. Here’s hoping I was hotter this week than in my last few attempts:

Matchday 6: Part 1

Bordeaux 1 – 0 Maccabi Haifa (1 for 1)

Juventus 1 – 4 Bayern Munich (stunning return to form for the German side – 1 for 2)

Wolfsburg 1 – 3 Man U (there is that hat trick I was talking about – 2 for 3)

CSKA Moskva 2 – 1 Besiktas (2 for 4)

Real Madrid 3 – 1 Marseille (Anybody get the number of that truck… I think it was no 9? – 3 for 5)

Milan 1 – 1 Zurich (3 for 6)

Chelsea 2 – 2 APOEL (No Prediction)

Porto 3 – 0 Atletico (No Prediction- PS. Dear Atletico… you are just completely useless aren’t you?)

Alberto Gilardino With His Eyes On The Prize... 90th minute tie breaker. Classic.

Matchday 6: Part 2  Fiorentina 2 – 1 Liverpool (Sorry ferrettij… maybe next time ‘pride’ will do the trick – 4 for 7)

Lyon 4 – 0 Debrecen (Absolute smokeshow – 5 for 8)

Barcelona 2 – 1 Dynamo Kiev (6 for 9)

Inter 2 – 0 Rubin Kazan (7 for 10)

Sevilla 1 – 0 Rangers (Will Rangers ever win a CL game again? – 8 for 11)

Stuttgart 3 – 1 Unirea Urziceni (the Germans were hungry… and proved me wrong – 8 for 12)

Arsenal 0 – 1 Olympicaos (No prediction entered)

AZ Alkmaar 1 – 1 Standard Liege (8 for 13)

Rob’s Total: 8 for 13 which = Not too shabby!

This wraps up CL coverage for the better part of 2 months, though rest assured, I will be back come the knockout stage of this marvelous tournament. Looking forward, it is clear that we are going to have a springtime full of heart stopping footy from all of the qualified squads. Its getting my blood pumping just thinking about it.

Cheers.

Huge goal by Gilardino. Will be interesting to see who now gets matched up with Lyon as they are really going to be a tough side as a second place finisher.

Way to go garoto. Bayern did a good job. The German sides have been down for the past few years. the French sides as well. The EPL and Spanish and Italian sides have been tops for a few years but this swing back to the German and French sides in the next couple of years.
The knockout stage will be nuts but fun to watch

Im waiting ever so patiently to see the draw… the first round of the knockout is sure to be full of classic play.
