Alex “The Headhunter” Ovechkin injured: Told You So!

December 1, 2009

Not even a week after I posted my original “Headhunter” article, my prediction came true. Alex Ovechkin did end up injuring someone severely from his style of play. The juciest dish about this particular situation is that Karma played a central role in our little hockey drama, as the player Ovie sidelined was none other than ‘The Great 8’ himself!

Last night Ovechkin initiated a knee on knee hit against Carolina Hurricane Tim Gleason. While Gleason went down on the play, it appears as though Ovechkin suffered the worst of the fallout, struggling to get up, and ultimately needing to be helped off the ice by his teammates.

This incident marks the second time in a week in which Ovechkin has been thrown out of a game. If that isn’t a wake up call for Colin Campbell, I don’t know what is. As I stated last week, Ovechkin plays with a lack of regard for player safety, even his own. Well Ovie, you got what you deserved. Maybe this will teach you a lesson. I just wanted to say that I told you so!

FIFA President Sepp Blatter revealed today that Ireland has asked to enter the World Cup as the 33rd team after Thierry Henry’s hand ball effectively ended their dreams of playing at the finals in South Africa. FIFA will be hosting an executive meeting on Wednesday, two days prior to the World Cup draw, to discuss this matter.

My guess is that FIFA agreed to talk about the incident and consider instating Ireland as #33 with the sole purpose of getting the Irish off their backs.
