Tiger Woods Car Crash

November 27, 2009

Tiger Woods in happier times

The PGAs best golf player and arguably one of the best individual athletes in the world has been seriously hurt in a car accident outside of his Orlando home. It’s reported that Tiger was pulling out of his driveway at 2:28 am when he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree on his neighbour’s yard.   He can place a ball the size of an egg anywhere on a golf course but apparently driving backward is bit tricky.  Police say the the Cadillac Escalade was not going faster than 33MPH since the airbags did not deploy. Do cars go that fast in reverse?

Many questions will be asked about this incident.

Will he be able to perform at a “Tigeresque” level once again? Who knows what damage was caused to him physically and emotionally.  It can’t be easy for a player to play as well as he has been after a traumatizing event.

Was alcohol involved? By leaving the house at 2:30 am one must speculate if alcohol was an issue in this matter or if he was sleeping behind the wheel. Usually when I’m out on a Thursday night at 3:00 am, booze is in my system and I’m an average Joe.

The truth will be revealed shortly but for now let’s hope for Tiger’s speedy recovery.  The golf world just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Alex “The Headhunter” Ovechkin

November 27, 2009

Alex Ovechkin is a name that can be  mentioned with the likes of Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky and even Bobby Orr. However, he can also be put in a category with the likes of Steve Downie, Steve Ott and Sean Avery.  As you rack your brain trying to connect the dots, think back to Wednesday night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres and recall that Ovechkin was ejected for boarding. And there you have it; the three players mentioned above are among the dirtiest in the league.  Now many of you may disagree with that statement, but before you protest, let me present the following evidence:

1. Ovechkin Ejection #1, December 2, 2006 – Ovechkin is ejected after hitting Daniel Briere from behind. Briere hits his head after being a foot or so away from the boards. Ovechkin is challenged for his reckless hit but has others stand up for him.

Grey Cup: Green Monsters versus Consistent Als

November 27, 2009

97th Grey Cup

The 2009 CFL Grey Cup will feature the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders . Montreal (15-3) and Saskatchewan (10-7-1) will be meeting for the first time in the Grey Cup as both teams  finished atop there respective divisions this year which earned both teams a first round bye in the playoffs. The Als and Riders then took advantage of home field in their respective Conference Final games.

The East Final was a rout in the Als’ favour, as they continued to show their dominance this year with a 56-18 thumping at the expense of the B.C. Lions. Anthony Calvillo was lights out, as he threw for five touchdowns in the game, which ties his career-high mark.  In front of a sold-out crowd at Olympic Stadium, the win was never at risk for the Als as they took advantage of a Lions team that looked sluggish and didn’t seemed to have a chance of winning.
